The Secrets of Avelina Chronicles – Book 1 – Runaway Girl

“A missing vampire princess. A soul fractured between five young human girls. One loyal vampire with a grudge. Can soldier Damian set aside his personal feelings to follow orders? Can princess Amelia’s soul be reunited in time for the meeting of the three clans? Will her brother Matthew fight for the right to rule? Who will prevail?”

“We’re soldiers, Emily. If we’re not elders or council members then that’s all we are. We’re here to serve those above us. We’re novel worthy, day walking, blood sucking, tortured souls trapped in a body that can’t die for all eternity with no feelings, no emotions and no heart. We don’t get to feel love, passion or desire. We do as we’re told, for the good of the clan and because we’re told to do it. And we protect people. So whatever grand delusions you have about being some kind of wonderful child and the master’s favorite are just misguided attempts to feel human again. Get over it.”

Damian knew that he was taking his frustrations out on her, but she was acting like a child and he was fed up with it. He was dragged away from Kaitlin, and for what? It wasn’t worth it and he wanted her to know just what she had willingly given up to be with her boyfriend, who had been taken away from her by the master … the same master who had asked her to do such a ludicrous thing.

“We might walk in the sun and feel real emotions from time to time. We might hope and dream and sleep and feel pain like humans do, but there are huge differences between humans and vampires and it’s about time you realized that,” Damian continued. “When humans die, that’s it. They don’t come back to haunt you. They can’t linger on in pain or heartache, but we can. Every day of our lives, we have to see people die. Humans can die from grief alone, but we have to linger on and suffer with no hope of it ending.” He was finally letting it all out, telling her just how hard their life was. It wasn’t something she could just waltz into because she had a crush on a vampire. It was something that could never be undone, something no one in their right mind would want, if they were aware of the truth. He hadn’t asked for his fate and every day it haunted him. Every day Angela haunted him, until Kaitlin came along. Sweet Katie made him live again, feel again … and what happened? The elders wanted to take her from him. His life was all about giving and never getting anything in return.
