Finally! A strong, female main character, who isn’t all about falling in love, who isn’t all about being the supermodel or the famous one, who is actually more concerned with saving the world and being a good person. Yes!! It’s such a relief to see a beautiful, strong woman who is plus size, actually being properly represented. Not only does she kick ass, but she has style, class, an ex boyfriend and is a good person. No more hiding in baggy clothes and always being the side-character of the story!

Faith is awesome. Feisty, fun and I love the little bits where she talks to us, the reader. The line “Although a cute mysterious time traveler would also be my kind of story. Just putting that out in the universe.”

And, a modestly dressed female superhero. Who knew, right?

The artwork is just stunning! So evocative and eye catching.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the story. I’m itching to know what happens next. And maybe see Faith stealing back Torque from Sidney. 😉

Turncoat follows the story of Duke, the world’s worst superhero assassin, and his constant battle with his ex-wife-and-rival assassin, Sharon. Duke is always one step behind Sharon, constantly missing out on the “big hit” that will set him for life. (It certainly doesn’t help matters that he only ever seems to go up against D-list superheroes like “Bug-Boy” and “Freedom Fighter.”) …so when Duke receives a contract for the most famous superhero team in the world, he realizes his time has come. Not just to finally make the big hit, but to finally move on from his ex-wife. If only it were that simple. Turncoat is a collection of the entire six-issue run of the popular webcomic of the same name (www.turncoatcomic.com). Created by Ryan O’Sullivan and Plaid Klaus in 2014, despite the two of them never having met. Ryan is from London, England, and Klaus is from New York.

I love a good superhero/supervillain story and this was no exception. With incredible graphics and a main character that you loved to hate, it had everything going for it. Great, realistic dialogue, a beautifully overexaggerated storyline that made fun of superhero stories, while staying true to the genre, as well as having a kickass twist at the end.

I loved everything about it.

Wow. This is not only incredibly beautiful, with the illustrations in such detail, but the intro of how Alive entered Wonderland was unique and brilliant. In the day and age of the story, it’s well possible that such things were expected of her – marry a man with a title and money, keep quiet unless it’s appropriate, only do, say and dress as she’s told to. I really loved her father and his flighty imagination, the way he was vindicated, but only after he wasn’t there to see it.

I thought the mention by the Dodo and White Rabbit that she’d been to Wonderland before was genius!

There were one or two moments of confusion, when Stayne’s PVO took over, but otherwise it was a great read and I look forward to Volume 2.

A detective with no memory, no identity, and no manners. A femme fatale seeking escape from a powerful crime lord. A voodoo queen with a penchant for mixtapes and hi-tops. A goat-eating TV… A surreal neon-noir fusing hardboiled pulp with an 80’s VHS visual aesthetic, dripping with neon and static. Collects LIMBO #1-6.

There is some incredible artwork here. Not only realistic, but setting the right atmosphere and mood for each scene, while allowing us to see crystal clearly everything that matters in that moment. I really loved the way the phone call at the start was written, so that we could only read the words we were supposed to, like a broken connection would allow.

The whole channel hopping idea was inspired and that line about Yorick and Horatio was brilliant! I loved the way the story delved into Voodoo, without being disrespectful or over-exaggerated, as some stories have a tendency of doing. Even the cannibalism aspect was really well done.

I really loved Clay as a character and Sandy was awesome, very kick ass. The way they interacted with each other and maintained the steady flow of the story was great. From Voodoo to cannibalistic Fishmen, to crazy game-playing Voodoo Gods, there wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

The extras at the back were crazy fun and well worth scrolling for.

In a word: genius!

Science is a lie, an opiate for the masses. The truth is, magic makes the world go ’round. And when magic breaks, MYTHIC fixes it. Apache shaman Waterson, Greek immortal Cassandra, and cell phone salesman Nate Jayadarma are the crack field team assigned with keeping the gears of the supernatural world turning, and more importantly, keeping you from ever knowing about it. Join Eisner nominee PHIL HESTER (Green Arrow, The Coffin) and Eisner winner JOHN McCREA (Hitman, The Boys) on their latest expedition to the dark heart of weird comics. Collects Mythic #1-8.

Incredible graphics. The colours and the whole “vibe” given off by the artwork is great for evoking the perfect moody, slightly dark atmosphere that matches the story.

Demons and supernatural creatures are great on their own, but backed up by the Mythic crew and the aspect about how the sun really revolves around the Earth is fascinating.

Every page was an adventure, but it was also a lot of fun to separate off into different adventures for every chapter, that all eventually came together as one big story. With the amazing art work and the dialogue that was easy to follow and fun to read, there wasn’t anything to dislike about this story.

It loses something in the e-book version, because some of the images are 2-pages and some of the scenes transfer across the top of two pages, so it takes a little getting used to and figuring out to know when to turn to read the next box and when to read the entire page. Thankfully, the dialogue and images are so well arranged that it’s something I got used to quickly. I can just imagine the impact this would have in paperback form.

For 32 pages, this glimpse into the ReMade story really packs a punch.

Not only is Holden loveable and relateable, but the teen love and teen angst is realistically adorable and heartbreaking. His attraction to Seyah and the way he tries to get close to her with the school play is the kind of typical teenage stupidity.

I loved the way the story started as a contemporary teen romance, with a little bit of weird dreams thrown in. But the way the story seamlessly slipped into the sci-fi story was a great piece of writing and plot preparation.

I’m really looking forward to reading more. I’m intrigued to see where the story will lead Holden and Seyah, but also what the heck is going on and why there are a bunch of teens in red jumpsuits.

As before, this was an exciting glimpse into the overall adventure of the “ReMade” story. With a new main character, May, we see a totally different side of the ‘world’ we’ve been dropped into. And, thankfully, we start the story exactly where Episode 1 left off, when Holden appeared out of the elevator into the forest, so we don’t miss a thing.

May was a little too overeager, perfect and pushy for me. I didn’t really warm to her as a main character. But, through her POV, we got to see more of the children already gathered in the forest and just how many there are in red jumpsuits.

It was a shame that Holden ended up the only “the sky is falling” characters, but I have no doubt that he’s right. He’s the one who saw the real danger of the murderbots. It would be nice to see more of him again later, and maybe some more of Hyrum and Loki too, as they along with Gabe were interesting characters.

As before, the story ended too soon. I’m looking forward to reading more.
