Sample Sunday: Of Gods and Kings 1

To give you a taste of what’s in store, I’ll be sharing samples of my available books. For the end of 2022, as I’ve run out of “available to buy” books to showcase, I’ll be giving you a RARE insight into some WIPs.

I’ll use the 7/7 Challenge (where authors post seven lines from page 7 of their WIP) as inspiration. I’ll be posting (approximately) 7 paragraphs of page 7 (unless they have spoilers, then I’ll choose the previous/next chapter) If more is needed, for context, then I’ll add more.

King of Beasts

Of Gods and Kings, Book 1

The Eamwulf have existed for centuries. Myths and legends to the humans who have never seen them, shifters, saviours, and killers to the few who have.

Few are born, entering the world to the omen of a shooting star. A star that draws Eamwulf King, Halden, to find them and take them into his clan.

On their twentieth birthday, they must prove their worth; to become warriors, or to become sephua – willing slaves. But when Maksim reaches the age of majority, no one is prepared for the result.

Brazen, curious, and willful, he breaks all the rules. And if Halden can’t bring Maksim to heel, his ascension could spell the end of the Eamwulf. Forever.

“You speak as though we are monsters and the sephua our prisoners,” Halden spoke up, eager to hear what he had to say. So far, though it pained him to admit it, every word that Maksim spoke rang of sincerity, the hard truth being put in front of them, until they had no chance to look away and ignore it any longer.

“Isn’t that the truth?” Maksim challenged, before gesturing to the sephua who had started this argument. “If I see victory tonight, I want Quillon to be given the chance to prove his worth. I want him to have a ceremony of his own,” he insisted, completely changing the direction of the discussion.

The passion in his voice caused the most irrational twist in Halden’s stomach. But he refused to back down too easily. “He had that chance and refused,” he reminded them all, as that was not something he would reconsider. They were all given a chance to prove themselves, and then the option of a second chance. There would be no endless opportunities on the battlefield, so there could be none in the clan.

“But he didn’t have me,” Maksim said, an arrogant smile on his face that suggested he didn’t need to say any more to prove his point.

Halden laughed, both at his arrogance and to cover the fact that it made him hungry to thrown Maksim down and ravish him from dusk until dawn. “And you will make the difference?” he asked, truly intrigued to hear what he had to say.

“I will.” Maksim nodded and glanced at Quillon with a far softer smile, something far more intimate and caring. “Because I dared to tell Quillon his true worth. And it is not to be a whore to thirty men,” he said, turning back to glare at Halden as though that was his fault. As though he was the one who had relegated them to perpetual fucking.

“And what is his worth?”

“To be my equal!” Maksim shouted, his anger rising and taking over what little sense he had.
