Amazon Says These Are the 100 Books Everyone Should’ve Read by Now
How many can you check off?
Most bookworms can agree that 1984, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Catcher in the Ryebelong on everyone’s reading bucket list. As for Diary of a Wimpy Kid? Your high school English teacher might disagree, but the beloved kids series just earned a spot in Amazon’s list of 100 Books to Read in a Lifetime.
The online bookseller turned shopping giant just released a definitive collection of must-reads, compiled by its own Amazon Books editors. The selection ranges from Frank McCourt’s heartbreaking memoir Angela’s Ashes to the delightfully zany Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.
“We had a few goals when we started out,” the editors wrote of their choices.
“We wanted the list to cover all stages of a life (which is why you’ll find children’s booksin here), and we didn’t want the list to feel like homework.” And with page turners like Gone Girl and In Cold Blood in the mix, there’s enough excitement to power through Barbara Kingsolver’s 500-plus-page epic The Poisonwood Bible.
Bibliophiles likely know and love a good chunk of the entries, but there are plenty of new and surprising picks to choose from for your next fall read. Check out all 100 entries below and start adding to your library list — or arguing about its contents:
